At E3, Bethesda’s Todd Howard got up on stage and admitted they made mistakes with Fallout 76, the embattled online Fallout game. While he did not detail these mistakes, in the eyes of consumer confidence, the power armor edition version of the game coming with a nylon bag instead of the promised canvas version was probably at the top of that list. On its face, maybe it doesn’t seem like a huge deal, but it became emblematic of every bit of disappointment fans had for the games.
The backlash, to which Bethesda initially sought to soothe with a 500 atom infusion to those with proof of purchase, eventually became too big for Bethesda to fix that quickly. The publisher promised to actually manufacture the canvas bags that they initially said were too expensive to make.
Now, seven months after the controversy, those bags have begun shipping out. Reported on Reddit and in various tweets from fans, the owners of the Power Armor edition showed a comparison between the two bags. An example below:
After months of silence my @Fallout 76 Canvas bag v2.0 arrived. The quality is much better overall, comparison below with the original bag at the top. And yes, the helmet does fit inside the new one. pic.twitter.com/b0mBa3sdZk

So, finally, that puts an end to Bethesda’s somewhat inexplicable bag problem. While it would be nice to say that this is an end to special edition changes altogether, that still remains to be seen. After all, the Doom Eternal one comes with a Doom Slayer helmet, hopefully the shipped version is accurate to the promotional images.
