Deadlane is a horror/racing game which pits the player against five contestants in a race for survival from Vscape Studios, founded in 2018 by brothers Rick and Jandro Alcala.
The game takes inspiration from Dead By Daylight and Need for Speed by blurring the line between hunter and victim. During each lap, the last-ranking racer with take the role as the “Grim Prix”. As the Grim Prix, you get a speed boost and immunity to obstacles on the course. The perks of this curse are definitely fun but it all comes at a price, elimination. The Grim Prix curse means that at the end of the lap you will be eliminated unless you pass the curse off using a projectile to another racer which starts the cycle over. The closer to the end of the lap, the more panic you face from the Grim Prix. The race finishes when four survivors remain – Gold, Silver, Bronze and last to be eliminated.
“Our goal for the game was to have an advantage quickly turn into a disadvantage at any time. Both racing and horror focus on building the player’s adrenaline, so the idea of going all-in on that made the entire team very excited”
Rick Alcala, Co-Director.
The obstacles you can find on the course include the deadly spirit of Telly who has the main mission of attacking racers. You must avoid her at all costs as she can randomly appear and enjoys the thrill.
This game is also available for single player races with additional modes as well such as time trial and survival.
Deadlane has been in development for just under 2 years, eyeing a PC release date for Q3 2021.
