FIFA 21’s Title Update #5 brings gameplay tweaks and changes to both the Ultimate Team and Volta Modes. More important, however, is the implementation of FIFA Playtime, the latest addition to EA’s Positive Play Project. FIFA Playtime is an in-game tool that allows parents and players to keep tabs on as well as limit their in-game purchases. As Eurogamer pointed out in an article it released earlier today, this is likely EA’s response to a concerned playerbase that has been critical of Ultimate Team’s rampant microtransactions for a long time. FIFA Playtime can be accessed from the main menu as well as Ultimate Team and Volta.
According to Eurogamer, the tool highlights how much FIFA points/currency a player has spent (as opposed to real-world money) and, with this information, players can impose their own limits on how many matches they can play, the amount of points they can buy, and the number of FUT Packs that can be opened during any given play session. The update looks to provide some peace of mind for players who throw a lot of money into FIFA microtransactions as well as parents that are worried about the effect this has on their impressionable children. EA has noted that this is merely the first step and that “there will always be more work to do.”
Title Update #5 launches on the PC version of FIFA 21 today and drops on consoles next week. Now that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are here, FIFA fans ought to know that Career Mode and Pro Club saves won’t transfer from last-gen consoles to current-gen ones.
