With the anticipation of Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s release on the 20th, many are already planning how they will venture into the new world and make a name for themselves. For Reddit user, jeffreykuiken, he has been an avid fan of Animal Crossing since Wild World, and began using companion apps with New Leaf. Upon reading that the developer of the app he grew to love from New Leaf wouldn’t update for New Horizons, he started to take matters into his own hands. Jeffrey Kuiken states “My goal for the app [ACNH Travel Guide] is to be a perfect companion for everyone that’s playing Animal Crossing New Horizons.”
ACNH Travel Guide is now available for $2.99 on the Apple App Store
We got some time to check in with Jeffrey and get some more information on his companion app.
What are you hoping to be the best thing that Animal Crossing fans get out of this app?
The app serves two purposes. First, it can be used as a reference while playing New Horizons. You can look up which bugs are currently available, the shadow size of that one fish you’ve been meaning to catch, the birthday of your favorite villager, and so on. My goal is for all relevant information a player might need to be in the app. Second, you can keep track of the fish/bugs/fossils that you’ve collected, so you can see your progress, and also what you’re still missing.
What features will be available?
Here’s a list of features:
- • Detailed information on fish and bugs, so you know exactly when they are available, for how much they sell, and much more
- • Keep track of which you’ve already caught, and which you are still missing
- • See all the information on all of the over 350 villagers in the game, including coffee preference and birthday
- • Quickly see the upcoming events and villager birthdays
- • Keep track of the fruits on your island
- • Detailed information on all available fossils, including the option to track which parts you’ve already found
- • Quick search through all items, and optionally filter by just the items that are available right now
- • Dark Mode is supported for all those nightly players
- • All data is available offline, so you can use the app even while you’re on the go
- • The data in the app is updated regularly and downloaded automatically in the background
- • Fully native app that’s fast and feels right at home on iOS
Any plans for future updates?
I’m actively planning future updates, also based on the feedback of the community. First on the list right now are notifications, for example for events and birthdays, as well as iPad support.
