Fallout 76 gets a new shot of life tomorrow through the highly anticipated Wastelanders update. This sizeable expansion adds NPCs to Appalachia’s barren wasteland, as well as a new story for players to unfurl. Many people are hoping that Wastelanders is a return to form for the Fallout series. Having choice-driven conversations with NPC denizens is certainly a hallmark trait of the original Fallout games, but that isn’t the only thing that defines them. It’ll be interesting to see how NPCs are used in a world that is designed for multiplayer.  We’ll find out tomorrow just how different the game will be moving forward.

In a blog post on Bethesda’s website, Fallout 76’s lead designer Ferret Baudoin and lead artist Nathan Purkeypile share videos of some of the new content, and also detail other additions and changes players will meet as they embark on their quests.

For instance, Crater, the crashed space station, is now a headquarters for the Raiders. Bethesda looked at areas that were underutilized and added life to them. In addition to revitalized areas, players will run into roughly 40 new locations.

As your level increases, you’ll unlock different things at vendors. Some are looking for Gold Bullion, a new currency type in Fallout 76 that is introduced through the main story. This currency can be traded in for crafting plans for armor, weapons, and other things. Bethesda calls them “endgame recipes.”

And yes, there are new beasts to hunt down, including a three-headed Legendary Irradiated Wendigo Colossus that is level 110. You can take a look at the Wendigo in action in the video at the top of this story.

If you logged into Fallout 76 at any point since it’s launch on November 14, 2018, you will be gifted a Veteran outfit upon your return.

We’ll have more impressions of Fallout 76: Wastelanders when the update goes live. Are you looking forward to returning to this experience or have you already had your fill?
