London Studio new co-op online game magical fantasy

PlayStation's London Studio, the team behind the PlayStation VR title Blood & Truth, has shared a new teaser image and details for its upcoming "modern fantasy" co-op game.

This news comes from a Studio Spotlight blog post by Sony Interactive Entertainment in which the company interviews two London Studio heads: co-studio leaders Stuart Whyte and Tara Saunders. The pair discuss their careers and jobs at London Studio, as well as what the team is working on. When asked about the studio’s next game, Saunders shares some new details about what to expect and the teaser image that you can see below.

“Our next project is an online co-op combat game, which as you can see here, is set in a modern fantasy London,” Saunders says. “The key thing about this is that it’s a PlayStation 5 title – it’s not a VR game like our last title was. And it’s our most ambitious project to date. There are some important aspects communicated in this image. It’s a modern fantasy London, it’s cooperative action. And what we really love about this project is that it’s giving us an opportunity to showcase a lot of wonder and magic. So we’re really excited.”

Saunders continues, explaining that the team came up with a lot of ideas for this game that weren’t set in London, “but for us there was a connection that kept leading us back to it.” That connection is that other projects close to the studio’s heart, like Blood & Truth and The Getaway “both had their home and heart in London.” She says London is an eclectic city, vibrant and inclusive as well, and the studio values inclusivity a lot. Whyte points out that the two are likely biased as well, given the name of the studio and the fact that it’s headquartered in the Soho area of London.

The studio’s in-house engine is actually named Soho, too.

“And the key thing is that it isn’t an engine that we modified to fit PlayStation 5: it’s an engine that we’ve rebuilt from the ground up for this generation of hardware and the needs of the game we’re creating,” according to Whyte. “It’s been designed to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5.”

The rest of the interview is quite fascinating, especially from a video game design standpoint, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out. For more, read Game Informer‘s Blood & Truth review
