Today’s Pokemon Direct came with some heavy Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield news along with some other annoucements.
Pokemon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass
GameFreak announced a shift from their traditional path of releasing a game and then releasing a follow up game with more story (a la Pokemon Moon and Pokemon Ultra Moon) and instead are developing an Expansion Pass. This will allow players to use their same data to continue their story. They have teased new forms for our starters and even the original starters.
This expansion expands the Galar region with The Isle of Armor (Part 1) which will release in June 2020 and The Crown Tundra (Part 2) which will release in Fall 2020. Each version of the expansion pack will have Pokemon unique to them.
The theme of The Isle of Armor is growth. In the Isle of Armor you will be met with beaches, caves, dunes and a new dojo style Pokemon gym. Your rival in this portion of the game is dependent on your version of Pokemon, Klara and Avery. Klara is a Poison-type trainer while Avery is a Psychic-type trainer
In The Crown Tundra, you will be tested on your exploration skill as you traverse through blizzard-swept fields and even Pokemon Den. This new pass also brings a new Co-Op mode into the game where you can have your friends in exploring Pokemon Den. Along with new areas, legendaries of the past are returning in this game with some teases of what we may see.
Additional updates have been mentioned as well but are still in development.
The expansion pass is available for pre-purchase later today for $29.99.
