Baldur's Gate 3 first weekend numbers

Baldur’s Gate 3 is off to a pretty great start in terms of its, thus far, glowing reception and player engagement. Developer Larian Studios has released a fun infographic accumulating player data gathered from the game’s first weekend, and the results are a mix of surprising, amusing, and flat-out staggering.

You can view the fun infographic in the embedded tweet above, but we’ve summarized each bullet point below:

  • 368 players finished the game during the opening weekend.
  • Over 93% of players rolled a custom character
  • Players spent a combined 88 years in character creation
  • Nearly 10% of characters spent at least one hour in character creation
  • Gale was the most popular Origin character selected at 27,784 players
  • Gale was the 7th cause of death for players
  • Paladin was the most popular class choice at over 200K players
  • Half-Elf was the most popular race choice at over 250K players (barely edging out Human at 2nd and Elf at 3rd)
  • Almost 100,000 players have been rejected by Astarion (Shadowheart was the most popular romance option, followed by Gale)
  • One NPC was shoved into a chasm for every concurrent player during peak engagement on Sunday (815,000 players)
  • 12% of player deaths were caused by friendly fire
  • 65.1% of players saved Emerald Grove
  • Scratch has been petted over 750,000 times
  • Players spoke to over 1,400,000 corpses and over 2,400,000 animals
  • Players have played at least 10,000,000 hours (over 1,225 years)

Needless to say, a lot of players appear to be having a great time with Baldur’s Gate 3, and we look forward to seeing how these stats evolve over time, especially once the PlayStation 5 version launches next month.
