Frontier Developments is taking zoo management to new heights and depths with its ambitious sequel, available October 13 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Your zoo just got a whole lot wilder.
Planet Zoo 2 officially launches October 13, 2026, bringing players back into the world of wildlife management with more than 130 animals, expanded conservation systems, and two major additions fans have been waiting for: fully aquatic and flying species.
Developed and published by Frontier Developments, the sequel builds on the original game’s detailed habitat construction and animal care systems while expanding what players can create.
Because apparently, managing an entire zoo wasn’t stressful enough. Now we’re adding aquariums, aviaries, and global conservation projects to the résumé.
Aquariums and Aviaries Finally Join the Zoo

One of the biggest changes in Planet Zoo 2 is the introduction of fully customizable aquariums and aviaries.
For the first time in the series, players can design dedicated spaces for aquatic and flying animals, opening up new possibilities for zoo layouts and habitat construction.
Frontier says the sequel features improved animal presentation, including more detailed fur, feathers, scales, and authentic behaviors.
Of course, beautiful animals are only part of the equation.
Players still need to understand each species’ environmental requirements, provide appropriate habitats, and keep their animals healthy and comfortable.
And yes, that means your dream zoo is still going to require considerably more planning than simply placing a tiger next to the gift shop.
Conservation Goes Beyond the Zoo

Planet Zoo 2 also introduces Wildlife Reserves, expanding conservation beyond traditional zoo management.
Players take on the role of a Conservation Coordinator working with the Fauna and Ecosystems Network, or FEN.
Rather than focusing exclusively on maintaining animal exhibits, you’ll participate in projects designed to restore wildlife populations and support ecosystems around the world.
That includes nurturing animals, releasing them into appropriate environments, and developing a broader conservation network.
It’s an interesting expansion of the series’ central idea: building a successful zoo should involve more than creating an attractive tourist destination.
Three Ways to Build Your Wildlife Empire
Planet Zoo 2 offers several ways to play.
Career Mode places players within FEN’s global conservation efforts, introducing challenges across different locations.
Franchise Mode focuses on building a connected network of zoos and reserves, with opportunities to trade animals and participate in community goals.
Sandbox Mode gives players greater creative freedom to design their ideal wildlife attractions.
The sequel also brings back Frontier’s detailed construction tools, terrain editing, and community sharing through the Frontier Workshop.
Players can discover creations from other builders, download blueprints, and incorporate those designs into their own zoos.
A first-person camera also allows players to explore their creations from ground level.
Which sounds delightful until you realize your visitors have probably been judging your path layouts this entire time.
