Hunter’s Moon Turns English Witch Hunts Into a PS5 Folk-Horror Nightmare

Hunter’s Moon puts players in the shoes of an accused “witch” fleeing for her life through a 17th-century English village, and its newly revealed voice cast includes 48 actors across more than 100 roles.

Sometimes the monster is not supernatural.

Sometimes it is the entire village.

Twin Swans has revealed the full voice cast for Hunter’s Moon, an upcoming first-person historical folk-horror game launching exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 26.

The game follows Lilith Thorne, a woman accused of witchcraft who must survive one terrifying night while being hunted by the Witchfinder General.

Rather than building its horror around demons or traditional monsters, Hunter’s Moon draws heavily from the real history of English witch hunts and asks a much more uncomfortable question:

What happens when fear turns ordinary people into the threat?

You Play an Accused Witch on the Run

Hunter’s Moon takes place over the course of a single night.

Players take control of Lilith Thorne as she escapes through a rural 17th-century village, nearby forests, and surrounding moorland while attempting to avoid capture.

Along the way, players can eavesdrop on villagers, gather information, and piece together the conflicts and beliefs that have pushed the community toward violence.

The result is less traditional “fight the monster” horror and more social paranoia.

Which, honestly, can be much scarier.

The game’s writer and director, Alicia Contestabile, describes the project as a way to place players inside the perspective of an accused woman and explore how fear, superstition, and community pressure could turn neighbors and family members against one another.

Hunter’s Moon Is Built Like Interactive Theatre

Twin Swans describes the game as an immersive-theatre-inspired folk-horror experience.

Rather than treating every character as background scenery, the village is filled with people whose conversations, beliefs, and relationships help tell the larger story.

Players will encounter mummers dressed in traditional folk costumes, listen in on villagers, and uncover secrets about a community already strained by hardship.

The concept feels less like walking through a haunted attraction and more like stepping into a living historical drama where everyone around you could become dangerous.

There is something deeply unsettling about that.

48 Actors Play More Than 100 Roles

Twin Swans has assembled a sizable cast for the project, with 48 actors performing more than 100 characters.

Hannah Morley, known for Apartment 7A, voices protagonist Lilith Thorne.

Gregg Lowe, whose credits include Crimson Desert and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, plays the Witchfinder General.

The cast also includes Anthony Howell, who has appeared in 007 First Light and Silent Hill: Townfall, alongside Joe Pitts from Lies of P and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

Other performers include Sophie McShera, Matt Stokoe, Samuel Barnett, Jacob Dudman, Charlotte Bellamy, and many more.

That scale is particularly notable for a compact narrative-driven horror game.

The Scariest Thing Might Be Other People

The central theme behind Hunter’s Moon is what separates it from many horror games.

Its story is inspired by the historical reality of witch hunts rather than supernatural folklore alone.

The game asks players to confront how fear, suspicion, religious belief, and social pressure can convince entire communities to persecute someone they already know.

There may be folk traditions and eerie imagery throughout the experience, but the danger comes from something much more grounded.

People.

That makes Hunter’s Moon feel particularly suited to folk horror, where the environment, traditions, and community itself can become threatening.

Who Is Making Hunter’s Moon?

Hunter’s Moon comes from Twin Swans, a new independent studio focused on interactive storytelling.

Its development team includes contributors whose previous credits include:

  • The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • Signalis

The game also features an original score from composer Resina.

Writer-director Alicia Contestabile previously worked as a producer on The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.

When Does Hunter’s Moon Release?

Hunter’s Moon launches October 26, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5.

Players can wishlist the game now through the PlayStation Store.

Hunter’s Moon is shaping up to be an unusual take on horror, blending historical persecution, folk traditions, immersive theatre, and psychological tension into one very long night.

No zombies.

No giant monsters.

Just a village convinced you are a witch.

Good luck with that.
